Won It All

Lately, I think it would be accurate to say that many of us have felt pretty deflated by our circumstances. The typical ways of engaging our communities, friends, even family members have undergone some radical adjustments.  No small part of that has been the lack of in-person church gathering. Singing praise to our God is of vital importance to our wholehearted health.  I personally have found it to be a powerful means of maintaining proper perspective on the eternal realities as we all face this temporal, but also very real, difficulty.

I am convinced that when we engage with the truth by actively participating in singing, we are empowered to see the otherwise unseen. When we worship God, we can more clearly recognize how he is at work in our midst, and just how real our hope actually is! That is why I want to sing songs about who is ultimately in control of our seemingly chaotic world – whether I’m in a gathered setting with the body, or in the confines of my own home.

One of our newest Fellowship Songs is called Won It All. When I sing it, I am reminded of God’s perfect consistency in two key areas: his total victory over all things (even sin and death), and his steadfast lovingkindness towards us.  It is his comprehensive sovereignty that ensures his victory in every single battle, every single time. A reality which is so important for me to meditate on when I feel fear of the unknown or sadness from loss.  Even more amazingly, His steadfast lovingkindness moves him to extend the spoils of that victory to his people (and me personally). So again, when I doubt, I can be reminded of scriptures that speak to his faithfulness and mercy just by singing that song.

One such scripture that comes to my mind is out of Romans 8 which says, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ….. No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (ESV).  The glory belongs to Jesus who died and was resurrected.  But the victory is shared with us as Paul references when he calls us “more than conquerors through him who loved us.”  The ultimate overcomer has blessed us with access to that same overcoming spirit that raised him from the grave!

As if his victory over sin and death were not enough, he also calls us into a relationship with him, to love and be loved.  His selfless act on our behalf is worthy of adoration and worship.  When I’m being reminded of that, I am inspired to lift my hands as a sign of testimony that the Lord is my hero, my conqueror, victorious in all things and that I love him with my whole heart. Because as the apostle Paul reminds us, it is God’s lovingkindness which leads us to a place of repentance.  His power and might have been tested and proven, but it’s his lovingkindness toward me that moves me to a wholehearted response of deeper faith and more ardent worship.

If I could leave you with one word of encouragement, listen and sing along with the song “Won It All.” Allow it to remind you of unshakable truth, matchless victory, and unending faithfulness.  Our world is always facing difficult circumstances. Each of us will undergo seasons of more and less obvious dependence on the Lord and his goodness. Let’s lean in to that desperation and worship him with truth strait from his Word on a regular basis.

Won It All

Foundation, unmoving

I stand on your promises

Established, forever

I’m anchored to what you’ve said

Nothing else compares to what you give

No greater love could possibly exist

There’s no rock no rock like you

Heart and soul, I worship you

My conqueror, victorious

Power that shakes the gates of Hell

This is hope that will not fail

You’ve won it all, you have won it all

Jesus, my champion

Your name is above all names

Jesus, my savior

I lift up my hands in praise

I receive the life you died to give

No greater love could possibly exist

There’s no rock no rock like you

Heart and soul, I worship you

My conqueror, victorious

Power that shakes the gates of Hell

This is hope that will not fail

You’ve won it all, you have won it all

Your glory revealed

My heart will respond

Because of your mercy, I’m standing in awe

Its you lovingkindness, that’s captured my soul

God you are faithful, you won’t let me go
